Of Mice And Mountain; The New Makalu 67 Gaming Mouse

Featuring The All New PixArt PAW3370 Sensor

Mountain’s first ever gaming mouse is up for review at TechPowerUp who found it somewhat resembled the Logitech G403, except of course for the buttons, body shape and hole pattern predominant on the Makalu 67’s body.  So, other than that it is is similar in overall size and best for average sized or larger hands to use in a claw type grip.  There is only one RGB area, an oval around the mouse button and DPI sensitivity button, with several patterns which should satisfy many games.  The lights and button programming are handled by Mountain’s BaseCamp software.

There is more to this mouse than just it’s looks, as it contains the new PixArt PAW3370 sensor which is capable of up to 19,000 CPI, and capable to a tracking speed of 400 IPS, or 10.16 m/s.  Accuracy and polling rates were very good and you can lift the mouse off of a surface by about the depth of a DVD and still expect decent performance, if that is your kind of thing.

In the end they were more than impressed with the mouse, this first attempt by Mountain was better executed than many models from competitors who have been producing mice for a long time now.  The one downside is the software, unless you feel 240MB of RAM is a reasonable amount for mouse software to consume.  Visit TechPowerUp if this review peaks your interest.
